2000s 4ohm/8ohm cab dilemma...
« on: September 28, 2001, 08:21:00 am »
I recently got a 2000s and i have been having one hell of a time with speaker options.  I will be using this for bass.  It has the original 16 main/8 ohm external outputs.  I have as options an svt810 cab (4 ohms which i would love to hook this up to-is there any way? I was also contemplating search the planet for a sunn 6x12, but that is at 6 ohms-not possible to connect??...that leaves me with 2 16ohm gutiar cabs i have lying around...obviously i'm entirely confused and i would appreciate some guidance and what big rig i can hook this up to (the 4x12 orange i am using does sound cool, i'm sure it doesn't do it justice..) Thanks!

Check the leads on the output transformer,
should have a tap for 4^ Brown in color,
just not connected. the 8^ tap is either White or orange, and the 16^ is yellow.
If the brown wire is present you can rewire the output jacks to connect for 4-8 or 4-16.
By the way most 2000s I've seen are wired 4-8.

Thanks for the info...leads me to another question, if i rewire to 4/8, how can i use 4 if i have 1 input on my 4ohm cab?  can i use a dummy plug in the 8 (main) slot?
Thanks again...

Both jacks are wired in parallel, the lower
ohm jack switchs both to that imp.

If you have a 4^ and a 8^ jack, you can plug
4^ spk into 4^ jack or two 8^ spks in both
jacks. Simple answer, no you don't need a dummy plug.
E-mail me and I can send you a schematic of
the amp.

I have 4 wires coming out of the transformer...white, yellow, brown, black...the white, yellow and black wires are attached to the speaker outputs, the brown wire is attached to something else..do i UN-attach the brown wire and replace its location with the yellow (16^) wire?
Thanks
