Have you measured the output of the AC conversion transformer, or are you assuming that it's really putting out 110 V and isn't malfunctioning?
Where exactly are you located? I'm confused as to why there are either no techs available, and/or the ones that are there have no interest in accepting your business and money.
Are you the only person with a guitar amplifier where you live?

Regardless, how do you expect that a bunch of people on an internet forum can diagnose your amp issues on line and give you a "magic" cure for it?
As I mentioned earlier, you need to find a qualified tech locally to fix you up; these old amps aren't very hard to fix for a qualified tech, even if they have never seen a Sunn before.

hey ed. i know that the amp wont repair itself after some answered questions.

i live in aschersleben thats in eastern germany.

like i said.i wrote to nearly 20 workshops that are not even in my area. then i wrote to a guy that is pretty known here with his blues music. he said just the same. go to a workshop. i was at a workshop but they send me away. don't have a car myself.
now 2 workshops off of 20 wrote back i should come over with the amp. but they are more then 200 miles away.
germany is a weird country, believe me!
i'm just a little afraid that they modify the amp and not really repair it you know? i want the original sound.

no i couldnt measure the amp because i don't have the tool for it. this thing is new and should work in description. i believe. i hope.

i'm on it.

I guess it just difficult for me to understand why shops wouldn't be that interested in getting your business, but I'm sure they have their reasons.
It must be a cultural difference between where we live.
For the most part, here in the US there are readily available sources for amp repair within easy access in almost any metro area, and unless the particular shop is overwhelmed with business they will generally gladly take in a project as basic as a 70's technology guitar amp.

Good luck in your search, and I hope you get it fixed up so you can use it soon!

Okay, I'll need a round trip ticket to Germany, food and a place to sleep while I'm there.

Other than that, I'll fix the amp for the cost of parts!

With the way things seem to be over there in the "amp fixin'" business, you might be able to pick up a little pocket change from other repairs while you're there too!

another suggestion - are there any colleges/university in your location where you can get some technical support from an engineering student/department?

hey isaac. i would greatly appreciate somebody opening a workshop in my city. knock yourself out! ;)

oh and george. yes a friend of mine is at a university. it's called SAE Institute. he studys audio engineering there and i asked him too but he said something like that they don't have anything like a workshop there. which makes me begin to wonder too.

looks like it takes time. its so frustrating seeing this monster standing there beeing all quiet.

oh and ed. you seem to forget that germany is like 30 times smaller than the states. the point is i live in the newly formed eastern states of germany which was cut off 20 years ago from development and "civilisation" - "workers and peasant state" you know? that means everything is a little a "backward region". thats why i think all the good stores and workshops are all either in the western ruhr area or down in the south bavaria... the so i called it "nazi" area. you know? the alps and sh*t

oh and there are 2 things that came in my mind.

first:
what if the sunn beta lead needs to be plugged into the speaker as stereo? you know? the 2 4ohm 100 watt speaker outputs at the back?

second:
what does "class 2 wiring may be used" mean?

there you have it. one guy just wrote me back. the estimate of costs to repair broken power amplifier transistors are 64 dollars - 130 dollars. is that normal?

How does that compare to the cost of a plane ticket?

Seriously, I would think that a bit high over here in the States, but such things vary by region. Might be normal in Germany.

Which state are you in?
