I found a custom 1x15 sun cabinet.
« on: October 19, 2012, 12:01:24 am »
So i find this thing abbandoned in my friends parent basement. So i decided to pick it up, we plugged it but didnt work. the volume was very faint and could not get loud. anyway. He told me it was a 2x15, that got turned into a 1x15 by some dude, then he picked it up.

Pretty torn up, i love the style.

Here's the inside: The main thing is that the speaker in it doesnt look like the jbl 130f they used to do them. nether the 140 one. So basically, it got nothing of a Sun amp, except the logo? haha. Do you know if they used other speaker than jbl???

Btw, the red bell thingy has clearly been spray painted. it original colors was metal. (haha.)

Thanks for the input guy.

That round port makes it look like it could be half of a Sorado cab. How wide and deep is the cab?

That speaker is no JBL of any year or model, but not all Sunns came with JBL's. I don't recognize that driver as anything Sunn ever used, though. It might be a pre square magnet CTS, or it might be one of the other few hundred 15" speakers that used a similar stamped basket in the 60's and 70's.

Since whatever the driver is it apparently doesn't work, and whatever the cab was it's now a hacked up mutant, I'd have to agree with you that the Sunn logo is the highlight of your find!

i found a serial code.

I removed the red thing so you can see the magnet.<

Here's the dimension. It definitly was a 2x15 because theres a part of the other speaker hole in the front board where the grill is at.

Horizontal lenght: 28 1/4 ''
Vertical lenght: 24 1/4 ''
Depth: 13 1/2 ''

thanks for the reply.

Here is a page that details what the speaker codes are for many speaker manufacturers. There is a link on there to more speaker codes too. If the 24 is the code than your speaker is a Becker. Hard to tell, but it is definitly not a JBL.
