Sunn Sonaro problem
« on: February 03, 2013, 04:48:04 pm »
I was playing my 67 Sonaro out of my 610L today for maybe 15 minutes until all of a sudden it stopped making noise, I tried to turn it off and on, it lights up and so do the tubes, but the amp won't make any noise unless the volume is up to ten but it still isn't audible.

You should be able to hear a faint hum or hiss from the speaker in a quiet room. If not, try connecting a known good speaker and speaker cable. Don't play through the amp if a working speaker is not connected. You could fry your output transformer.

If it's not the speaker or cables, pretty much any competent tech can sort it out for you. Those old Sunns are very old school straight forward, no proprietary PCBs or anything that; its not like you need a "Sunn qualified" solder jockey to figure out what's wrong.

If they need a schematic, let me know and I can dig one up for you.
