newbie here is bass suposed to be crunchy

i have a 1968-70 sunn solarus amp i play the  bass  through it and have one of the 2-15 cabs from the 70-72 that sunn made
i was wondering if bass is supposed to be crunchy and how do you tell the age of your amp and cab.
