after a long "offline" term (caused by the job and private stuff) I would like to add my experience with an "alternative" to the Sunn 2000S cab. First of all I wrote to MONOLITH asking about the 2000S cab. There was no answer (tried it several times), maybe because it the cab would have been to heavy to send it overseas...? I don`t know.
So I asked SAD in Germany. They are famous for their bass cabs. SAD is mainly a one man show but a really nice guy to talk to. I gave him all the data I could get for the 2000S cab and he did some calculation. He pointed out, that the cabvolume of the original 2000S cab is too big for the speakers, even for the org. JBL`s. That's why the cab would sound a bit "muddy" heaving a reduced punch. To his ears the Fostex 1X15" would sound close to the original JBL´s as they are not available anymore- he used them in some cabs. Each Fostex gets its own chamber, to add some more attack we used an extra 2x8" Fostex in a single camber on the top. Over all the cab has then the same size as the "original" 2000S cab, it´s just a bit deeper.
Anyway, it sounds great, more like the 200S / 215B Sunn cabs I have with a strong attack. The 2000S likes it a lot
