preamp in/power out.

has anyone used the preamp in/power out option of their Sunns?

is there any problem using a 1/4 unbalanced cable(i.e. guitar chord) carrying a (line level?) signal from a  P.A. board's monitor out to the preamp in and then power out?   i am in a pinch for an extra power amp and need to run an external feed to push another cab. i

I use the preamp in/power out bays on my amp as an effects loop. I have a Concert Lead that I run a BBE Sonic Maximizer through those patches, just like an effects loop. Works great, never had any problems. As for sending a signal to an external power amp, I haven't tried that yet. I think you can use them to chain amps together too, but don't quote me on that!

I experimented with using the in/out on my Solos II, but it was a little too noisy to be a good FX loop.

I'm sure a little maintenance or contact cleaner could fix it, but I'm way too lazy.

Hello:
Go for it!!! The pre-amp out and power amp in jacks are for daisy chaining or slaving. I have used the power section of Beta's and Concert series amps for extra monitor or PA amps when things go down. The pre-amp out will drive other amps or the PA board with no problem.

Don T you said you have used your Concert and Beta heads as power amps to drive a monitor, well thats what im looking at doing. I guess i didnt phrase my question right. The jist of how to use it is plain enough but what my main concern is, is proper signal. i want to know if anybody had any problems with distorted, noisey, weak, out of phase, etc signals from a P.A monitor out when useing the amp as just a poweramp.

Hello:
The amp sections have about a 1K input impedence with a 1V sensitivity. If you are daisy chaining with PA amps that require 2.5V (common with high powered amps) then the Beta will clip way before the PA and with only 100 watts into 4 ohms it will not be heard as well as being distorted. If you set it up so you can control the input signal then you can get it matched to the other gear. It would work better for monitors that PA because of the low power. I only did this when amps went down. I would use the Beta section to drive the HF horns in a PA in mono so I could put the SA300 on mids or lows. If impedence match is good and signal OK then everthing should work OK.
