Tube Replacements for 6L6... KT66? Help...
« on: May 07, 2006, 08:56:57 pm »
Hey, I just want to know what tubes I could experiment with in my model t reissue.  It has the original groove tubes 6l6's in there now and they sound great, but I heard somewhere that KT66's could be subsituted for a supposedly bassier sound... can anyone let me know what tubes I could experiment with on this amp?  Thanks.

First of all, your model T is not a reissue.  It is a fender amp that happens to have the same name - since fender has all the rights to the sunn name and their products.  It is a mistake to assume they are related in any way, shape or form.

Second of all, sorry about the porn threads.  There were two when I signed on today and I deleted them both.  I was a little later than usual.

KT66s will work sonically as 6L6 subs, you might like them and you might not.  I would be hesitant to use them in your amp, however, since they draw a lot more filament current than 6L6s.  I don't remember if the '90s Model T has an EL34/6L6 or 6550/6L6 switch - if it does, then you'd be OK.  Otherwise I wouldn't do it.
