Early style grill cloth wanted
« on: March 25, 2007, 05:13:20 pm »
Hello, Recently found a 200s cabinet that is in need of some Restoration. Word is it spent years in a barn and when I opened it up it smelled and looked like it had some mice living in it. Needed some serious cleaning along with new wires and insulation but is in solid shape. The grill cloth as numerous smaller sized tears/holes and would love to find some older cloth to make some patches to attach from the inside. I know no one is making the early grill cloth but my hope is that someone here has completely regrilled an amp or cab and may have some of the original material available. Don't think I will need more then 5-6 inches square to do the patch work. I've gone as far as trying out some samples from Mellotone but don't think anything but the original style will do it justice.

Any chance anyone can help me out?

Thanks,
Nick

Also, on a side note the cab has jbls one d-140 16ohm,the other a e-140 8ohms. I would think it would balence out around 10-11 ohms but it reads around 7 from the speaker cable. Strange? Sounds nice but I'm certainly going to be in the market for another 16ohm jbl.

That eBay auction looks like it might be a piece of Wendell Fabric's SF7005. You are talking about the early non checked grill cloth aren't you spellcaster?
If so, and anyone comes up with some, I'm a player also!

Correct Ed, looking for some of the early fabric to help patch up some holes. It's a shame we can't find this in bulk. How nice it would be to redo my cabs in fresh material!

Bulk? Hell, you can't find it at all! As far as I know, the only source is Sunn cabinets.
