412sr guitar or PA?
« on: May 22, 2007, 10:09:42 pm »
so i'm using these towers in my guitar rig.  but i'm wondering... i've only ever seen these sold just as the towers or paired with a PA.  I bought it myself with a concert controller 1.  so this got me to wondering.. what were these originally sold for?  i guess it doesn't particularly matter, but maybe it does who knows..

okay so doing a little more searching has gotten me to see that these are looking to be definetly PA cabs.  what mods should i make if any to run guitar through this rig.  i want maximum performance out of it obviously.

That would depend entirely on what you mean by maximum performance. What do you want them to do that they aren't doing? Can you reasonably expect a PA cabinet to do what you want it to do? Or do they sound great as they are?

I think these came loaded stock with the Sunn Guitar Transducers, so I don't really see any reason why it wouldn't make a decent guitar cab.

maybe not as bass heavy as a bigger boxed 4x12" would be, but I find that the guitar transducers are more bass heavy than a lot of other speakers so it might balance them out a bit.

I don't know... maybe this could be a new trend for guitar. Very retro looking and very cheap (these old column speakers were designed for PA, but are so obsolete I've seen more thrown away than sold!). Definately not your 4x12 sound, but will get the sound up to the players ear level, and no need for a chair/table/stand as you would with a 2x12 combo thing. They could be reloaded with "better" (i.e. higher watt rating/ more suitable EQ'ing) guitar speakers if the original drivers are shot. Takes up less stage space! Amp can be placed in a more easier/quicker to reach location than behind you as on "normal" rigs. If I weren't a bass player I would do this just for fun!

well i've got two of them so it really acts like an 8x12, i just want to make sure that the speakers will be able to handle what i'm doing with them.  7 of the 8 are the original and i have the 8th which was dead, it may be something fixable, but i threw an Eminence "Cannibus Rex" in there.  No problems so far, but just seeing.
