Wanted: Solarus, Scepter or 200s maybe.
« on: February 05, 2009, 10:14:57 pm »
I am in the market for a Solarus, Scepter or a 200s head. I have looked these up and most sell for around $250, $300. That's probably the highest I will go. If willing, I am  professional artist and if you or you're band (if you're in one) is looking for art, I would trade that or some cash and that if it's over my price range.

Where exactly did you "look these up" for $250-$300?
Don't snooze! If I were you I'd buy them all and turn them for a HUGE profit on eBay.
Here's some recent sales; not some nebulous asking price, not some "expert" opinion, but... what people actually paid for them:

Sentura - $599 on 2/4
Solarus - $650 on 1/30
200S "needs work" - $364 on 1/25
200S "not working" - $357 on 1/18
Sceptre - $490 on 1/18

I suspect that the days of a functioning 200S for $250 are behind us.

It's likely he did a search on Harmony Central(sort of like people who see the prices on Velvet Black, and expect to get a mint Traynor YBA-1 for $50), or possibly through this forum, so the prices he saw were probably from about two years ago, if not substantially earlier.

Boutique shops definitely aren't charging those prices.  However, if you can find amps at this price, more power to you!

You should try less conventional places; local classified ads, garage sales, estate auctions, etc. Kinda labor intensive and like finding a needle in a haystack, but probably your best/only option for finding one in that price range.
Good luck!

Don't overlook befriending local charity second hand shops or warehouse. I got a nice 69 Solarus head for $50 because they knew it was unsafe to power up or sell (No broken electronics selling policy) Actually I traded a working laptop for it, which when it went on sale for $50 I happened to pick it up before anyone else did. Now for the recap..............
Bands currently. For Fox Sake (Lead Guitar) Aces High (5 string Bass) Zoot Suit Riot (Tenor Sax) Miles to Midnight (Fretless jazz bass) Rockfish (5 string bass) Spent Youth (5 string bass) Tried as Adults (5 string bass)
