Yet another impedance question...
« on: July 13, 2011, 07:22:14 pm »
Okay, so I wanna run my '69 1200s through my 90's 4x12(16 ohm) & 4x15 magna (4 ohm) cabs. So should I just run the 4x12 out of the amps 8 ohm output & the 4x15 from the amps 4 ohm output? Seems right to me but I just wanna make sure :? Sure makes a cool looking rig, the half stack is the exact same height as the 4x15 & all with the matching silver grill cloth. I might have changed my mind about selling that magna cab :-D

That would show the 4 ohm output tap 3.2 ohms, which is probably fine except for the fact that your 4X12 will only get about 20% of the amps power.

Oh well, any way around that to make better use of the amp with those two cabs?

You could rewire the 4x15 cabinet for 16 ohms and then run both cabinets in parallel from the 8 ohm output.

That's what I'd do.
