help is bass guitar supposed to be crunchy

help i am a newbie and need to know if bass is supposed to sound crunchy.
and what does crunchy mean please someone explain. :???:

lets see if i can explain this..

hmm..

personally, i consider "crunchy" to be a LITTLE bit overdriven but still clean enough to be articulate. Also, with an amp on a "crunchy" setting, you can take the "crunch" away just by backing off on the guitar's volume a little bit.

is that what youre referring to?
